On Melancholy Hill (China x Reader)

You sat peacefully on your quiet hill in the park, headphones on, blissfully leaning against a tree, a soft breeze lifting a small smile to your face. Eyes closed, you thought of your crush. As you daydreamed, you didn’t notice the same person stroll past you as you napped.

He stopped right below your hill and gazed up at the crystalline sky, not noticing you only a short distance away. His thoughts drifted to you, and how much you didn’t know you meant to him.

He felt the presence of another nearby, and turned to see you peacefully napping on the hill. He grinned and sat next to you, careful not to disturb your calm, and turned his loving gaze to your face. He examined each part, your delicate nose, your long eyelashes, those rosy lips turned up into a light grin, and wished you were awake, so he could see your bright eyes directed to him with that happiness he always saw in you.

You slowly opened your eyes to see your friend Yao sitting next to you. He’d gotten so lost in his thoughts, that he didn’t notice you staring right back at him. A soft blush bloomed across his face when he noticed, and you smiled and giggled.

His blush became redder as he took your hand into his and spoke.

“I have something really important to tell you, aru...”

“What is it?”

“我爱你, aru...” He quickly averted his gaze and his blush became fiercer as he started to worry because you didn’t immediatly answer. You looked at Yao in surprise then pressed your lips to his cheek. You didn’t understand Mandarin, but you didn’t need to, his body language conveyed his message to you perfectly.

He jerked his face back up to stare at you in disbelief.

“什么? 真的, aru?”

You asked, “How do you say ‘I love you too’ in Mandarin?”

”我也爱你. Why?”

“我也爱你, Yao,” you smiled. His face lit up in happiness. He cupped your cheeks in his hands as he slowly inched closer to your face. Your eyes slid closed when he touched his lips to yours in a gentle, yet passionate kiss. After a few moments he pulled back, and you beamed at him. He sat back to lean against the tree and pulled you into his lap, wrapping his arms around you as you leaned back against his firm chest, a ghost of a smile lingering on both of your faces.
